Steel Pipes Case Study

Barrow to Stonewall - Anglian Water (Case Study)

Frazer & Tabberer were heavily involved, alongside Laing O'Rourke, on the following project.
Customer:  Anglian Water
Contractor Laing O'Rourke
Site Location Barrow to Stonewall
Date: April 2001

A single steel water main to replace 21" ductile iron and 21" cast iron mains between Barrow and Stonewall, Lincolnshire, was installed.

The two iron mains had corroded along a 1.5km stretch, and bursts and blow outs were resulting in unacceptable water losses, and difficulties with regards to repairs.

A better long term solution had to be found.  After careful consideration of the alternative pipe materials, especially with regard to the aggressive soil conditions and elimination of pipe corrosion in the future, FT Pipelines steel pipe with 3mm 3 layer PE coating, Copon 162 PWX internal lining, and E joint ends was chosen.

The E joint end connections mean that there is no need for any repairs to the internal lining after the pipes have been welded together.
