Locking Lids Case Study

Yorkshire Water(Case Study)

1982 Robert Frazer and Horace Tabberer of South Staffordshire Water invented the locking replacement stop tap box lid. 22 years later, the product has become the cornerstone of cost saving for street furniture repairs in 14 of the leading Water Companies throughout the UK.

Reported savings are between £70 and £150 for each lid used, depending on the application and area of installation.

The replacement lid locks into the existing chamber which is left in the ground, by use of a clever but simple locking mechanism meaning that once installed, future potential theft or damage is virtually eliminated.

Yorkshire Water are currently leaders in installing the no dig technology utilising over 50 pattern types at an average of 300 lids a month.

By the end of April 2005 YWS esimated saving to date (over a five year period) will nett over £1,000,000 turning a potential financial black hole into a lucrative venture.
